Head shot of Kris

Kris Helm, Residential Nurse for O’Connell Children’s Shelter, has been in this role for the past 4 years. In this role she is helping with educating the youth served about their medications, health maintenance, and teaching them to be proactive with their health care needs. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was able to work with our staff and youth by monitoring covid testing of possible exposures. She also worked closely with DCF by reporting all exposures and positive tests with contract tracing.

Kris also oversees the house managers at Winter and Williams Houses with daily monitoring of the youth served by providing positive programming that teaches each of them life skills for them to use when they age out, get adopted, or are reintegrated with family. We help to coordinate care for the youth we serve and help with working with their families to get them home.

Kris was a former foster parent for 12 years and has 7 adoptive children. She is a guardian of 3 special needs adults who live in our community. When not at work she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys attending as many of her kids’ extra-curricular activities as possible.
